Our 2011 Think Pink Ambassador

Last year was a terrific year for Think Pink Bahrain, and it has been an honour for me to help promote the charity alongside such a hard working and inspiring team.

As an athlete competing on the world sporting stage my hope was that I would be able to make a difference in my role as a goodwill ambassador for Think Pink Bharain. I did this by trying to highlight the work of the charity to my fellow sportsmen and women and therefore a wider audience.

As an athlete I plan to continue the work to promote breast cancer awareness amongst Bahrain's young people. As we know education is helping to break down the barriers of stigma that still exist and we must continue to enlighten the young people in Bahrain about breast cancer and that early detection is the best cure.

Although many goals have been reached the work of Think Pink Bahrain continues with fund raising and promotion work and every donation can make a huge difference.

My connection with breast cancer is that I lost an aunt to the disease a few years ago which made me realise how many families are affected by breast cancer. I became involved with the charity last year in June when my wife Carrie and I held a Hawaiian themed fundraising event at the Bahrain Yacht Club. Nearly 400 people attended the event and 2800 BD was raised.

My recent 2010 Asian Games Campaign was a great success for me and as always I was proud to represent Bahrain around the world. Since then I have spent the last 6 months focusing on my career and recently successfully completed my training on the Boeing 777 aircraft as a First Officer Pilot. However, I will still devote spare time for sailing and hope to be able to compete in the 2011 Pan Arab Games where I'll be aiming for a Gold Medal.

Once again, thank you very much to everybody who has supported Think Pink Bahrain; together we can make a difference!
